The course of our life is often determined by two different types of time, one corresponds to what we call “everyday life”. The “everyday life” is the flow of repetition and difference that we find within our daily routines: go to work, study, exercise, etc. all which occur in “unexceptional” fashion.
The other type of time could be thought as the opposite of the “everyday life” and is marked by special events that disrupt the normal flow of our routines and daily life.
We find these exceptional events worthy of celebration, due to their rarity and importance: birthdays, promotions at work, graduations and such, are events of this nature which, due to a profoundly human impulse, we seek, not only to enjoy during the present, but to create some sort of memento that will stay as a proof and record, that such an important event took place. This registry, in turn, has the potential of becoming memories which will help to remember (or transmit to those that were not present at the event) like a story, that special occasion.
Marriage is one of those exceptional occasions considered as extra-ordinary, and as such we find great delight in celebrating getting married, as well as setting records and memories of such a grand event. Such is the importance of marriage for humanity that besides birthdays, that is life in itslef, there are few other personal events besides these that are annually commemorated and celebrated.
